Market day - new jewellery and stuff

It’s been a while. I was doing so well on keeping on top of my Etsy listing. Then for a couple of days I let things slide and all of a sudden it’s market day again and I have a heap of new things that aren’t listed. There are some piece that I haven’t shared here yet that are listed - a bracelet and a couple of pairs of earrings:the good things 1

(lampwork bead - Cheeky Cherub Designs; ceramic discs - Jubilee)

banded about 1

(ceramic bands - Scorched Earth)

pretty inside 3

(polymer buds - Pips)

And now here’s all the new, new stuff that is yet to be listed. If there’s anything that takes your fancy, do get in touch.

crowning 2

(ceramic crown - Round Rabbit; ceramic leaf - Scorched Earth; lampwork - Helen Chalmers and Earthshine; patinated hoops - Grubbi)

Sometimes I find myself thinking, ‘Perhaps I’ll just pass on making necklaces from now on’, so it’s always nice when I make one with which I’m actually wholly satisfied. I’m also liking this bracelet, simple though it is - the prehnite is so glow-y!

grape juice 1

(crown - Jade Scott; ceramic bird - Blueberribeads)

I’ve been fiddling around with this necklace for an age. Still not sure if it’s right.

on a constant 1

(ceramic rectangles - Jubilee)

This one was the biggest pain to photograph!

sahara song 1

(ceramic spike - Scorched Earth; wirework clasp - The Curious Bead Shop)

And another one that I’m still ‘hmmmm-ing’ about

ophelia 1

(ceramic freesia - Scorched Earth)

I’ve been trying to come up with some simpler pieces that I can offer on the stall at a lower price than my other necklaces. I’ve found shoppers in Frome aren’t generally as ready to part with the kind of sums that many Etsy shoppers are ready to pay. Recently, I’ve made myself a number of necklaces in this kinda totem style. They’re simple and really easy to wear. So, we’ll see how they go…

flower totem 1

(patinated leaf - Something to do Beads)

owl totem 1

(ceramic owl - Blueberribeads; enamel oval - Gardanne)

bird totem 1

Here’s a wee detail of this last one -

Here’s a piece from the current issue of Stringing.

pipeline 1

(ceramic bands - Scorched Earth)

This bracelet was also featured. I had to price it yesterday. Hell, I really went to town with the pricey ingredients when I made this…

rainbow facets 1

(lampwork poppy - Mermaid Glass, copper clasp - Joanne Tinley)

I can’t decide whether to list the other pieces that were published… Anyway, some earrings now:

the two of them 1

(ceramic drops - Scorched Earth)

scored and swirled

(ceramic rounds - Anne Lidbetter; ceramic drops - Scorched Earth)

You know those earrings you’ve been looking for that look like little vintage table lamps? Here they are!

little lamps

(paper beads - Spoon)

Jeez… there is a heap of new stuff… I like the colours in this next bracelet - real summery…

beach hut

(polymer beach hut - Pips)

lost home

(house charm - Amanda Davie; beaded bead - Malin de Koning)

This one ended up being mine. I hadn’t anticipated the extent to which the creamy vintage beads would overlap, so it ended up being kinda tiny. Ach well… This one was always going to be mine. (I need to stop repeating this bracelet layout all of the time!)

mine

(ceramic rounds - Anne Lidbetter; ceramic dropper - Scorched Earth)

I’m still not sure whether the ceramic elements really work together - they seem to clash somehow.

To finish, here’s a shot of my new stall layout, with some new props - some ceramic tiles that don’t look too much like they were left over from fitting a bathroom and a couple of wooden risers I salvaged from the offcuts at a local timber merchants. I wanted to lighten it all up and make it less cluttered.

Stall june 2014

I always start out, when I plan stall layouts, thinking, ‘Yeah, this is gonna look good’. This is the first time I’ve finished and still thought, ‘Yeah, I’m quite pleased with that’. So that’s an achievement. If you’re around Frome tomorrow, do stop by. I’ll be somewhere around the George Hotel in the market place, from 10am till 3pm.

30% off Sale and new jewellery

I’m not very good at promoting my Facebook page and, of course, Facebook doesn’t help with these things if you’re not prepared to pay. ‘Likes’ have crept up slowly but I’ve finally made it to 400. To celebrate I’m offering 30% off all jewellery this weekend. Just use the discount code 400THANKYOU. Here’s a link to the shop. I’ll be running a giveaway soon too; just need to decide what to giveaway. Remarkably, I’m up-to-date with listing. Along with the available BSBP pieces, I’ve added a crop of earrings and a lone necklace over the last couple of days. Here are the new pieces that I’ve haven’t yet shared here.Dancing 1

(ceramic discs - Happy Fish Things)

pearl cup spikes 1

(ceramic spikes - Scorched Earth)

odd bods

(lampwork beads - Glass Geo Beads)

listen, listen 1

(ceramic connectors - Scorched Earth)

tendrils 1

(ceramic connectors - Scorched Earth)

The wind over the ocean 1

(ceramic connectors and drops - Scorched Earth)

Out of the ground 1

(ceramic discs - Scorched Earth)

Bit of a Scorched Earth fest, hey? For a change…. Anyway, don’t forget: 30% off all jewellery with the discount code 400THANKYOU. Shop this way!

BSBP Reveal!

Oh dear, oh dear… Today is the reveal day for the 8th Bead Soup Blog Party - something I only realised yesterday evening. I thought it was on Sunday. (I’ve not done at all well with dates recently!) I’ve had to dash around this morning getting my photos taken. So, without further ado, I’d better get on with things. I have made a heap of stuff with the wonderful soup that the lovely Lori Anderson sent me.

full soup from lori

For a full run through of the ingredients, head here. The first piece that I made was this bracelet, using some of the recycled glass nuggets.

frosted shells

(ceramic heart charm - Bo Hulley Beads)

I’ve been wondering what to do with these vintage shell beads for some time. The glass nuggets were just the right size. Next, I turned my attention to the beautiful lampwork focals, made by Jane Perala, and the stock of delicious czech glass.

cluster strand bracelet

Do you see those vivid blue spacers? I was quite taken with them and there were loads in my soup so I simply stranded the rest of them together to make this skinny wrap bracelet.

lagoon wrap

(bronze charm - Thea Elements)

The main focal and clasp that Lori sent were both sweet Thai Hill silver butterflies. I wanted to combine them in a necklace reminiscent of pinned butterfly displays. This sort of thing:

butterflies

So I collected together a few more butterflies from my stash and made several attempts at getting them all to hang one above the other in a necklace, with little success. Then I had a brainwave. Why not just make a number of necklaces that can be layered up to form a column of butterflies?

butterfly necklace 1

(ceramic butterfly - Marsha Neal, ceramic drops - Scorched Earth)

It was hell’s delight to photograph, but I’m quite pleased with my solution. My soup included a stack of pewter rings which I’ve wired together to form my own chain. Here’s a detail, showing the clasp.

I had some of the chain left so I mixed it with more of the czech glass in a multi strand bracelet.

(ceramic heart - Blueberribeads)

Earrings next, three pairs:

earrings 1

(ceramic droppers: Scorched Earth)

earrings 2

(enamel leaves - Gardanne)

earrings 3

(lampwork discs - Helen Chalmers)

My favourite bead was one of the large lampwork pieces, so I decided to treat myself to a simple pendant piece - a bit of a BSBP souvenir!

my pendant - BSBP

(ceramic leaf - Scorched Earth; ceramic coin - Majoyoal)

And finally, another recycled glass and vintage bead combo:

geo bracelet

(ceramic bead - Round Rabbit)

Phew! Told you there was a lot. I’m so grateful to Lori for sending such a bounteous and beautiful soup (and for organising the whole thing!) - Thank you, Lori! Here’s the soup that I sent to her.

To see what she has made with it, here’s the link to Lori’s blog. And, of course, there are hundreds of folk around the globe participating in today’s party. Go visit them and show some love:

New Beads, predominately birds…

As you may or may not know, I haven’t made many beads recently. I was prompted to get the clay out to try a couple of things I’ve had in mind. For a start, I’ve been wanting to try making some smaller birds, suitable for earrings. I made a couple of pairs…

wee brown birds

wee olive grey birds

as well as a couple of loners.

wee blue birds

I also had these bead set designs in mind and I wanted to try them out.

geo patch beads

As I was making the yellow set, I was struck with the shape of one of them, which led me to make these -

patch birds group

That’s the bulk of the new bits. Not much, I know… I made a few random extras - old faves mostly -

Misc beads

And these seafoam spirals which have touches of gold. Good for earrings, me thinks.

seafoam spirals

I’ve now listed all of these in the bead shop: Here!

New jewellery - quite a lot of it….

What a week…

the naturalist

(ceramics - Scorched Earth)

well, ten days, really.

out walking 1

(ceramic droppers - Scorched Earth; ceramic birds - Happy Fish Things)

What has been happening?

big top 1

(ceramic droppers - Scorched Earth; ceramic tubes - Golem Studios)

Well, Dexy got sick. He had a dreadful ear infection, which required a general anaesthetic so it could be flushed out.

indigo and iolite 1

(ceramic droppers - Scorched Earth; patinated hoops - Grubbi)

So that was all quite stressful.

denim

(polymer flower and bird - Tree Wings Studio)

Then I went to an open house at Smitten Beads, which was great but far more ‘active’ than I’m used to. That’ll teach me to be such a homebody. I picked up a stack of new good stuff and met a load of folk I’d only ever ‘met’ online.

winged things 2

(ceramic leaves - Scorched Earth; lampwork beads - Earthshine)

I’d just about recovered when my laptop died. The hard drive went - just went. Nothing there, gone, kaput. Had I backed up all my images and software?

graffiti 1

Had I hell.

into the trees

(ceramic house - Elukka; enamel leaf - Gardanne)

I’ll spare you the details - because they’re long and not very interesting - but I did manage to get the hard drive and software replaced without paying for them.

ocean side

(ceramic round - Slate Studio)

Or breaking the law.

barley

So, thank heavens for that!

one daisy

(lampwork beads - Earthshine)

But, oh my, I don’t like being without a laptop. I kept getting that phantom limb thing where I’d turn to check something on it then find it wasn’t there.

crystal tip earrings

Of course, all this turmoil has prevented me posting new designs here. As you can see, there are quite a number. Some have been listed, and some sold, but if there’s anything here that catches your eye that you can’t find in my Etsy shop, do get in touch.

holding light

(ceramic spiral coin - Gaea; beaded bead - Malin de Koning; clasp - Amanda Davie)

So, apologies for another image heavy post…

peacock shards 1

(enamel matchsticks - Numinosity)

…although I’m quite relieved that I have all these images recorded on my blog because they’re no longer on my computer.

delft 2

(ceramic lentil - Golem Studios; lampwork discs - Helen Chalmers)

ombre sky

(ceramic lentil - Golem Studios)

I’m getting busy and posting all this now because it’s market day tomorrow.

jardin

sun into the evening

I’ll be stationed outside the George Hotel, in Frome town centre, from 10am till 3pm.

beach bird

(driftwood bead - Nature Scavenger; ceramic urchin - Blueberribeads)

Can you tell that I’ve yet to get to grips with my new version of Photoshop?!

catchy monkey

(copper pendant - Thea Elements)

tango teal

(driftwood bead - Nature Scavenger; lampwork beads - Glittering Prize, Helen Chalmers)

my bracelet

(ceramic leaf - Bo Hulley; lampwork beads - Glass Bead Art)

This last bracelet ended up being really small. So, regrettably, I’ve had to keep it for myself. Anyway, that’s the lot. Ciao for now.
