New Beads – Shop Update Today, 6.30pm BST

It seems to have taken me the longest time but I finally have my latest batch of beads ready to add to the bead shop tonight. There are around 150 items waiting to be listed. They’ll be going live today, 19th August, at 6.30pm BST. There or there abouts. Here’s just a little of what will be available.

bead sets

These cones were a hit last time, so I’ve made up some more…

…including a small number of matching pairs.

cone pairs

Talking of matching pairs, a while ago, I made myself a stack of beads. It was only when I finished that it occurred to me that it would be kinda helpful to have some smaller beads, to use at the top of earrings and suchlike. My default size that I tend towards when making beads is always kinda big, I realised. So, I challenged myself –

earring pair setsNow I just need to make some for me to use… There are six sets in all; if they don’t go I might start pinching them myself. And here are some of the gazillion pairs of earring charms and beads that I’ve made to go with them.

earring pairs

Really, there are loads, and that’s not to mention the healthy pile of points and wedge pairs that I’ve made.

points etc

And then there’s the headpins too – there’s also a lot of them.

But it’s not all earring-y things. There are a number of new focals – some of which took an age to decorate…

And I came up with a new look bird design.

I’ve also made up multiples of some rounds and rondelles with some of my favourite glazes, so they can be bought singly.

Finally, I’ve made a number of one-of-a-kind focals and head pin bundles, and some other bits and bobs, which I’ll be selling on Ceramic Art Bead Market in the next few days. In the meantime, all these and many more will be available in the bead shop later today.

Bead Shop Update

Wow – get this! Blogging about a bead shop update before it happens! Not two weeks later! That heap of beads I was glazing are all done. I’ll be adding them to the shop tonight at 6.30pm (GMT). There aren’t going to be heaps of listings like the last couple of updates.  A good part of that heap of beads I shared last time were for me.

My beads

So that’s me sorted! But there’s still over sixty new items, including lots of earring pairs!

I also have this little pile which I’ll be sending off to Big Bead Little Bead very soon.

And I’ll also be offering a few of my other new pieces on Ceramic Art Bead Market, a Facebook auction site, which you can join easily just by clicking on ‘Join Group. That’s all for now! Hope to see you at 6.30 this evening in the bead shop. To finish, here’s a picture of a custom order I did – just like the picture…

Waaaaaay too late – some new-ish beads…

I’ve done it again: neglected my blog and gone putting new beads in the shop without saying a word about them here. Two weeks pass and I want to post about something else but feel I can’t overlook…. Oh, never mind!  Thing is, I did do a blog post about them on Art Bead Scene. I say a few things about them in that post as well, but for now I’ll just share some photos with you here.

Important Stuff about Bead Custom Orders

I’m starting work on a new batch of beads.

houses

I have lots of plans for new designs and I’m looking forward to coming up with other new things as I go along. I’m also planning on making more of the beads that have been particularly popular in the past. One thing I have noticed in previous updates is that there are certain designs that sell out very quickly.

medium yellow roses 2

In the past, I’ve had a number of people be disappointed that they haven’t been able to bag the beads they wanted. I could just make extra of all the beads I think are or might be popular, but it occurred to me that it would make sense if I offered customers this opportunity to place custom orders for things they particularly want, whether it be things they’ve missed out on or things they’ve had in the past and would like to buy again.

If that’s you then could you please message me using the following address: somethingtodobeads@gmail.com. Unfortunately, the comment function on this blog is, well, bloody useless, so a message would be much safer.

Also, do have a look at my Sold Items in the Etsy shop to see if there’s anything there that you fancy.

I’m afraid that I won’t be making any of the polymer or patina pieces you might find there, but there’s plenty of ceramic items from which to choose.

[A brief aside: there will also hopefully be a limited amount of patinated chain!]

The firing schedule that I’m falling into means that I’m not always in a position to take custom orders, or if I can, it’s often the case that I’ll have to ask the customer to wait for a month or usually more. So, I hope taking advance orders now will suit some of you.  No upfront payment is required, however.

So, the email address again: somethingtodobeads@gmail.com.  If you could title your emails ‘Custom Order’ that would be really helpful.

New Beads

Oh dear – poor old blog, I do neglect you sometimes. And you’re going to get slightly shabby treatment now too. I listed a heap of new beads last week. Lots and lots of them – by far the biggest shop update I’ve ever done!  A good number have sold but there’s still a lot of choice.  Anyway, I should have blogged about them but i had to do a post for Art Bead Scene, so I blogged there about them. Now, lazily, I’m just going to copy that post and share it here too…..

————————————–

Oh boy, have I been busy!  As you may know if you regularly read this blog, I got a kiln fairly recently and have been making ceramic beads.  Prior to that, for a short while, I was getting my stuff fired at a local potter’s place.  I’m now falling into a production cycle of firings that results in large batches of beads.  I may be wrong, but as I understand it, many ceramic bead makers use a kiln that is a bit smaller than the one I chose (now christened Bertha).  So, my production cycle involves spending an age making up heaps and heaps of greenware to fill up all that space, ready to be bisque fired.

As you can see, I could actually get much more in here but I can only wait so long! I opted for a larger size because it was not that much more to get a kiln three times the size of the very smallest.  Also, I was bothered that I wouldn’t be able to get many beads racks in glaze firings if I went for the small kiln.  But, the drawback is that it takes a long time to get a batch of beads completed. It also means that I end up with a massive mountain of bisque that needs glazing, which can be a bit overwhelming.  All this aside, I’m still loving the whole process. It was very good to get this greenware cooking. Did I whisper, Go, Bertha, Go!, as she whirred into action? I may have… . Then, after four glaze firings – two different stonewares and two different earthenwares – I finally had my batch finished.  And then it was time for the dreaded photographing, editing and listing, which has taken much of this week. I finally got all these new beads into my bead shop last night.  Anyway, time for a photo feast. Like I said, there were rather a lot of them…

Lots of earring beads, including lots of my point pairs…

and a range of polka dot porcelain spears.

I’ve been experimenting with making breastplate pendant connectors,

along with lots of other pendants:

And I’m still obsessed with all things seed pod and lily-like:

I have tiger stripe beads in a rainbow of shades, including these:

And plenty of these pennant sets –

I decided to go in for the whole Marsala thing – and bought too many Marsala-y glazes. Some worked better then others….

These roses have been very popular so I made up plenty of sets; here are just a few:

And, of course, there’s always a call for birds:

I had lots of fun selecting palettes for these sets:

And here’s a last few bits:

These are just a few from that mountain in the kiln, so if you’re interested in seeing the others, click here.

As I said, many have sold – thank you, lovely customers –

but there are still plenty available!

Christmas come early… come late

Hello all. I hope you’ve had an at least tolerable Christmas…

xmas tree…and that your festive season has been full of good things,

photo-5 copy 3like fluffy pink elephants and stuff.

Last time I posted, some days before Christmas, I mentioned that I has amassed a pile of parcels full of good things like beads and glazes.

photo-5 copy 2

I also mentioned that I’d be back in a day or so to share this early xmas bounty. Well, I never got around to it so that’s what I’m doing today, some days after xmas.  I meant to take the pictures of the contents outside, on a white background, but it was cold and I was lazy – it may even have been raining – so I ended up taking them on my scruffy, stained work surface. Sorry about that. Anyway, on with the good things. I’m sure a fair number of you will recognise the red wrapping on that top package. A Petra parcel is always very welcome and this one contained those dinky Christmas trees at the top of this post.

PetraI’m loving those spiky ring things. Not entirely sure what I’ll do with them yet but you know how it is when you have to have something? Course you do!

A number of the parcels were things I ordered in Black Friday sales, like this little bundle from Earthbutter Beads.

earthbutter

The colours in those raku rounds are so subtle and beautiful; I had to order another two more sets just to ensure I had enough to bring myself to use some.  I did a similar thing with the earring pairs I got from Slate Studio.

I knew I’d need to keep a pair of each for myself.  I love Sarah’s beads so I stocked up when she had her Black Friday sale. Ditto Tree Wings Studio.

I can’t get over how teeny those little birds are!  More Black Friday purchases here, from Happy Fish Things.

I got a few beads to keep this necklace company on its way over the Czech Republic.

I’d had my eye on it for ages and it had already been reduced quite a bit. I did try taking a pic of me wearing it. I won’t bother sharing that!

What else? I’d also stocked up on more Madeline Bunyan polar bears. I didn’t get around to using them this year but they’ll be ready for next Christmas!

I wish I’d got a better picture of these Numinosity goodies.

Also wish I’d managed to bag a few more of them whilst I was shopping. Finally, beads-wise, some lovely new designs from Blueberribeads.

Edit: I forgot to include these:

How??! The wonderful Moogin Mindy, of course.

Now for some really fascinating pictures.

I just can’t stop buying glazes…

In fact, I think I might just have to have a little browse to see if any online suppliers are  running end-of-year sales.  Speaking of the end of the year, let me leave you with the best of wishes for 2015.

What’s been going on…

Oh dear! It’s been quite a while since I last posted. It’s been a hectic few weeks, full of the typical December jewellery-world business, including craft fairs and post office queues and all the rest of it.  On top of all this predictable activity, I also had a crazy big update in the bead shop. I should have blogged about it long since. A good number have sold (thank you, dear shoppers!). Still, I felt I couldn’t post now and not include some images of these latest beads – for the record if nothing else. Plus, some of them are still available in the bead shop.

A few of these have sold, but the rest are available on Etsy.

Whilst I’ve had all this stuff to do, a large pile of beady and glaze-y post has accumulated. I told myself I wasn’t allowed to open it until I got all my chores and responsibilities out of the way. I also told myself that I had to get my work surface tidy before opening them too.

photo-5 copy

Well, that looks pretty tidy – to me at least!  I’ll be back in a day or so to share some properly envy-inducing pics!!

Bead Shop Update – 7pm, 6th November

So I finally got all those beads listed – well, the listings are drafted, save for a few more details – and I’ll be adding them to the shop tomorrow evening at 7pm. So what is there? Well, as I mentioned last time, I’ve made more of most of the things that sold well or had a good response last time, including these tiger stripes, which will be available in pairs in various colours…

…and these graphic blooms, which I’ve done in different colours and quantities.

There are LOADS of earring pairs – this is just some of what will be available.

I’ve also topped the birds up – both pairs and singles.

And there’s more roses, including these.

Again these will be available in sets but also individually.  I have heaps of new designs in the works, including lilies, igloos, penguins, and much more besides, but they are still waiting to be fired. In the meantime, these and much more will be available here tomorrow at 7pm.

A little time out…

So, I was supposed to be getting back to you last week with details of new beads and a bead shop update. Well, that’s been kinda delayed after what has been a somewhat hectic and, at times, stressful week.  Sometimes I just have to tell myself to slow down. I get to thinking that everything has to be done yesterday, and I have to have a word with myself. Anyway, there will be new beads in the shop this next week. Here’s a little taster:

october beads collage

You might recognise some of these. With this batch of beads, I tried to make up more of the designs that were popular in the first lot of ceramic beads that I listed, but there are some new pieces, like that blue framed pendant.  There’ll be a lot of completely new designs in the following lot which are currently waiting to be fired.  Speaking of which, it’s here!

photo-5 copyPerhaps I should point out that this is, in fact, a kiln, not a portaloo.  It’s done its initial drying out firing and I’ve been busy bat-washing the shelves today. So, hopefully, I’ll also get my first bisque firing done in the next few days.

Having had a little word with myself, I decided to do some relaxing earring making.  It’s the market this weekend and I felt that I could do to have some simpler earrings available. And some shorter pairs too. These Petra drops really don’t need much adding to them anyway. archipelago 1 So, I managed to make just the one pair of shortish earrings.  However, I did make a couple more simple pairs.moorland 1

With Scorched Earth spikes, of course.

New Autumnal Beads

So, a little while ago I decided to try out some designs I had in mind for some stoneware autumnal bead sets.  The wonderful and generous Petra Carpreau sent me some stoneware glazes that she wasn’t using – a really delicious deep rich red and a fizzy marmalade orange.  I’m glad that I was prompted to try out stoneware. Had it not been for getting these glazes I might not have tried it out so soon, but now I have I’ve got a real love for the feel of it.

autumn bead sets 1

After quite a bit of work I just have these five sets but I’m pretty happy with them. I particularly like the leaf/tear-shaped drops with the pools of yummy Petra-glaze in the middle. 4th autumnal bead set 2

I’ll be adding them to the shop today (Saturday, 27 September) at 5.30pm. I’m happy to take reserves – I think a lot of folk are anxious for payday to arrive this month.

autumn bead sets 2

Along with these, I have a handful of other autumnal pieces that I’ll be listing today.

autumn beads other

I have a stack of other beads in the works and a number that are completed. I just thought that I’d put this small lot out as a group to give people chance to get them in their autumn designs. I should be done with the others and ready to do a big full update some time in the first half of October – I hope.  There is rather a lot of glazing to be done –

beads in the making

Anyway, do head over to the bead shop at 5.30pm today if you’re interested in picking up one of these new stoneware pieces.
